THE WAY BACK WAS NEVER THE WAY

Foundational Wellness, Holistic Iridology, and the Small Choices That Help Us Reconnect

A book by Kylie Woomer, founder of The Iris Oracle

Coming Soon to Amazon!

Sometimes the way forward does not look like going back.

For a long time, I thought getting better meant finding my way back to the person I had been before illness changed everything—back to my old energy, my old routines, my old plans, and my old life. But somewhere along the way, I realized I wasn't rebuilding the life I had lost. I was growing a new one./

The Way Back Was Never the Way is part memoir, part foundational wellness guide, and part invitation to look at health—and the life being built around it—a little differently. It is the story of becoming sick, searching for answers, rebuilding slowly, learning to listen to my body, and eventually discovering that meaningful change rarely begins with one enormous moment.

Sometimes it begins with something very small: a glass of water, a different meal, ten quiet minutes outside, a garden planted imperfectly in the middle of July, or a decision to finally listen when your body whispers instead of waiting until it screams.

And sometimes those small choices quietly become a completely different way of living.

This isn't a book about doing wellness perfectly.

It's about learning how to begin where you are.

Inside these pages, personal story meets practical foundational wellness. We talk about nourishment, hydration, minerals, gut and lymphatic wellness, sleep, rest, movement, stress, daily rhythms, our environments, nature, seasonal living, and some of the everyday foundations that are easy to overlook when wellness becomes complicated. We also explore holistic iridology through the educational and observational approach that helped inspire The Iris Oracle

But there isn't a perfect protocol waiting for you at the end. There isn't one food everyone needs to eat, one supplement everyone needs to take, or one routine everyone needs to follow—because your body isn't a checklist.

The goal is to become more curious about it: to notice, ask better questions, strengthen the foundations, and recognize that sometimes the most meaningful changes begin quietly.

“The foundations don't ask for perfection. They simply ask you to begin where you are.”

Why I wrote this book

There was a time when I barely recognized myself. My health changed. My confidence changed. My plans changed. Even ordinary parts of life became difficult. For a long time, I wanted the old me back. I thought getting better meant somehow finding her again.

Years later, my life looks very different from the one I once thought I needed to return to. There are muddy shoes by the door, children running through the house, vegetables growing imperfectly in raised beds, wellness books stacked beside toys, long workdays, and meals made in a hurry. There is also a woman who learned to pay attention to herself in a way she never had before.

I didn't find my way back. I grew forward.

That's why this book exists. Not because I have every answer, but because sometimes hearing how someone else found their footing gives us permission to start looking for our own.

For anyone standing somewhere between “something needs to change” and “I don't know where to begin.”

Maybe you're just beginning to think differently about your health. Maybe you've spent years searching for answers, or maybe wellness has become so complicated that you no longer know which advice to follow.

Maybe you're trying to make more supportive choices for your family while also managing work, children, bills, appointments, laundry, dinner, and everything else real life throws at you. Or maybe you're simply realizing you've become disconnected from yourself somewhere along the way.

The Way Back Was Never the Way was written for that space—not to hand you someone else's path, but to help you become curious about your own.

And somewhere along the way, there was a garden.

I didn't start gardening because I had mastered wellness. I started because I wanted to grow something. Instead, the garden became one of the quiet teachers in this story.

Some plants struggled, some surprised me, some died, and others grew where I never intended them to grow at all. There were pests, heat waves, muddy shoes, imperfect tomatoes, tiny harvests, and plenty of moments when I wondered whether I knew what I was doing. It turned out to be a pretty good reflection of life.

Growth is rarely neat. And maybe it isn't supposed to be.

“Big transformations rarely begin with big moments. They begin with small firsts that we choose to repeat.”
